Guns Up! E3 Preview
Fight or die in a blaze of glory

by on Jun 13, 2014

Guns Up! is a lite-RTS game with some tower defense mechanics thrown in there. You assume control as the general of an army and it is your job to destroy the enemies and conquer their bases. You do so by deploying troops, using special weapons/items, and executing special actions all while managing your resources.

Guns Up! is a simple game to pick up and play but to survive you’ll need strategy. You have a limited amount of resources to begin with and in this case those resources are bullets. Bullets are dropped when you kill enemies so don’t be afraid to spend, just spend wisely. Each troop type costs a specific amount of resources and there are cooldown timers.

During my play session I chose to keep deploying grunts as they were cheap and come in groups of six. The only downside was the enemies were knocking them down faster than I could deploy them. I sadly let several groups of grunts die before I was finally able to organize and strategize correctly (deploying different types of troops). Once that happened I was demolishing everything in my path and collecting resources and items like crazy.

What I really liked about Guns Up! were the fighting animations. Nothing was more satisfying than dropping firebombs on the enemies and watching them burn to death and watching my troops trample over their bodies. It was awesome watching the different types of troops use their abilities to advance the front lines.

Guns Up! was really fun to play and you don’t need to be an RTS fan to enjoy it. It’s simple enough that you can probably get through some of the earlier levels by just having strength in numbers. There are plans for co-op modes, competitive online modes, and a lot more. It is being developed by Valkyrie Entertainment who are better known for their artistic contributions to titles such as League of Legends, Battlefield 3, and Batman Arkham Origins.

Guns Up! will be a free-to-play title and will be available on PS4, PS3, and Vita with Cross-Play support. It should be out sometime later this year so keep an eye out for it!
